Alumni, students, and community members are invited to attend Alumni Park’s portion of the 2018 JVN (John Vietnam Nguyen) Day Festival. During this drop-in event, visit One Alumni Place to enjoy a light breakfast and share work in a medium of your choice focused on the themes of leadership and service in the community. This year’s theme for the JVN Project’s annual hip-hop festival is The Root, and it centers on remembering the values and experiences that make us who we are.
Attendees are encouraged to perform new or unpublished work — from poetry, rap, and dance to comedy and storytelling — or come out in support of artists in the Madison community. The JVN Project honors the life and legacy of John Vietnam Nguyen — an inspirational artist and UW–Madison First Wave Scholar. Please note that participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Sunrise Open Mic is a partnership of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the JVN Project, a non-profit that seeks to use hip-hop as a tool for social change, community uplift, and positive youth development in every endeavor.
